The threatened video game tax credit

This is back to school, and a recent sober report entitled Expenditure Review: business aid , and written by the General Inspectorate of Finance throws a gloomy veil at the end of the year. The IGF recommends, among other measures to reduce the public deficit, the abolition of the video game tax credit (CIJV).
In this three -page technical sheet, the rapporteurs find that there would be no specific assessment of the tax credit, to note its effectiveness on the maintenance of studios in France (regularly claimed by industry), and that other support systems exist to make up for its possible judgment (aid, loans, guarantees, etc.). The IGF also depicts the sector as prosperous and dynamic, therefore seeming irresponsibly to rule out forgetting all the economic complexities of such a sharp and singular sector.
The video game tax credit is essential for our sector
The SNJV, with the support of all regional associations including Game in, goes up to the niche to defend French companies , and Plaine Images can only acquire: CIJV creates more revenues than it generates expenses, and several studies demonstrate its positive impact on the turnover of the studios. The fantasized image of a folding industry is a thousand places from our daily life of guides, the small independent studios as the heavyweights in the sector need this device to lighten the substantial production costs.
Let us not forget that the video game remains the first world cultural industry, and that the video game sector in France is resilient, in particular thanks to the CIJV. Market demand is constantly increasing, and the video game supply intensifies all the more: therefore, staying in the race in an exponential market is a permanent challenge.
A parliamentary report (May 2024) noted in this regard the beneficial effects of the CIJV on the sector: the CIJV is very widely distributed throughout the territory, with the emergence of real regional video game centers, including Hauts-de-France. The rapporteur noted that the system initiated a positive dynamic on the whole territory which enabled France to position itself as a competitive and innovative player on the international video game scene ... and to conclude that "CIJV is essential for the development of the French video game game, in a context of very strong international competitiveness".
A glimmer of hope, we learn that the Directorate General of Business (DGE) has been unfavorable to the abolition of the system, is proof that it press the negative consequences for the sector?
