1 Keynote / May 6 5 p.m.-6 p.m.: To inspire video games to improve the product experience
What lessons can we learn from engaging video games such as Fortnite ? This introductory session will discuss some fundamentals of cognitive psychology, the “Design Thinking” approach, the UX working environment…
After explaining the main limits of the brain to take into account, the presentation will address the important elements which participate in the success of a game, and which can also be applied to any product, application or service in order to make it more engaging Or “gamify it” (making it fun).

2 masterclasses: UX strategy inspired by video games
We invite you to follow a training course in 2 independent sessions (in French with slides in English).
Session 1 / Thursday June 3 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
Session 1: Limits of the human brain and usability (3h) - Introduction to cognitive sciences and psychology to understand how our brain works and, more specifically, how human being learns. We will examine the capacities and limits of perception, attention, memory (and we will briefly approach the impact of motivation and emotions), via many examples of everyday life and video games. We will then explore the first main component of the UX approach, applicable to the development of any product or service: usability (ease of use of the interface and the system). The objective of this part is to better understand what means that a product will be more intuitive, according to our knowledge of the human brain.
Session 2 / Thursday June 10 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
Session 2: Engage- Ability (3h) - The 2nd part focuses on the second component of the UX working framework: engagement ( product capacity or service to be engaging). We will explore: extrinsic motivation (objectives and rewards), intrinsic motivation (theory of self-determination), design in design, as well as the concept of “flow”. Analytics research) methodologies and we will end with a reflection on ethics.

About the trainer
Holding a doctorate in psychology (Paris V), Celia Hodent is an expert in UX (user experience) and specializing in the application of cognitive sciences in order to improve products or systems (cognitive ergonomics), more particularly video games in The goal of making the experience more intuitive and fun for players. Through her work at Ubisoft , Lucasarts , and as a UX director at Epic Games ( Fortnite ), she has contributed to many projects on multiple platforms (PC games, consoles, mobiles, and VR). Celia is the author of books in the brain of gamer : neuroscience and ux in video game design and the psychology of video games .
She has worked since 2017 as an independent consultant to support companies on the subjects of user experience, tech ethics, unconscious biases and inclusion. Celia is also the founder of the Game UX Summit CNIL prospective committee .
