It is a partnership that hopes to be a date in the industry: Deezer and SACEM join for more equitable remuneration for copyright, thanks to the art-to-procurer Recluration model.
Beyond the price awarded to each stream, recently analyzed by Duetti , this new model differs radically from the current model, called Market Centric.
This is an opportunity to make an inventory:
Market Centric model calculates the royalty duties in proportion to total listening: you can therefore listen only to confidential artists, but pay most of your subscription to heavy goods vehicles, without even listening to them. This model in force by default in all DSPs is unfavorable for niche genres and the least acclaimed artists.
Historically, this remote model has its origins in the first years of Spotify, when the company flirted with illegality. The majors, scalded by years of hacking, were able to dictate their rules to their advantages and do not hurry to move the model.
-The Artist Centric (or User-Centric) , promoted by Deezer and Sacem, intends to pay the artists actually listened to by the subscriber. This model is weighted by including a premium to professionals: the songs of artists with at least 1,000 streams from 500 different subscribers each month are paid twice by Stream compared to artists who do not reach this goal. This model seeks a point of balance by weighing the popularity and loyalty of listeners. He is also criticized by part of the profession , because he would continue to benefit large artists.
The SACEM has not given specific figures on the increases in fees that the songwriters can hope for: its general manager Cécile Rap-Veber warns in an interview with Musically : "I am not talking about 10 % or 20 % of growth, but it is enough, I think, to adopt the system". World leader in the collective management of the rights of creators and publishers, the SACEM has the clearly assumed objective to make "oil task" with this partnership, by forcing other DSPs to follow the example.
