Pop Terror is an artistic initiative that draws its inspiration from the codes of pop culture and the universe of toys art. Launched in 2023 in Lille by a duo of French designers father and son, this project aims to create an original artistic proposal by inventing characters who serve as creative supports.
The essence of the Pop Terror project lies in the creation of characters who are both strong enough to make an impression, but also quite neutral to allow everyone to project their own imagination. This unique approach allows a deep interaction between the work and its audience, opening the way to a multitude of personal interpretations.
Behind Pop Terror hides a fascinating intergenerational duo: a son and his father. Romain, aged 21, is an FX 3D artist trained at the ArtFX installed at the Plaine Images. His experience includes the creation of animations and 3D effects for cinema and advertising, as well as a visit to car design at Kia Europe Design Center. Fred, 48, is a graduate graduate graduate graduate in Tournai in Belgium. His professional career includes designer roles for the press and the web, as well as a career as artistic director in communication, transmedia projects and animation, collaborating with giants such as Samsung, Airbus, France Television and the group M6.
The story of Popterror began with the common passion of its creators for contemporary art, graphics, pop culture and toys art. Their collaboration gave birth to the character "EQSO", fruit of a lot of graphic and penciled research. This playful and colorful universe evokes the codes of childhood. The first prototypes were made of resin on 3D printer, followed by a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in February 2024. This initiative led to the production of a collection of three art toys in a limited series of 500 copies.
Faced with the enthusiastic reception of the Art Toy community and Toy Makers, Pop Terror has widened its offer by offering new "Shape" for larger formats and monumental creations. The project has also opened up to collaborations with other creators, such as the artist @hellomeda who designed a series of limited edition posters inspired by EQSO creation.
Thus, Pop Terror represents a unique fusion between contemporary art and popular culture, offering a new field of expression for the collective and individual imagination.
