Tore: a space of virtual reality at the interface of human and social sciences and digital

Installed on the Plaine Images, "The Open Reality Experience" (Tore), is an innovative virtual reality device of completely original design. The screen, curved in all its dimensions and devoid of edges offers an unprecedented technological evolution compared to existing immersive rooms: 3D visual environments can indeed be explored there without visual interruption, on 180 degrees and at a substantially constant distance by relation to the user.

These characteristics in terms of immersion and comfort of use make possible the visualization of realistic images and the application of objectification methods of behavior developed within the research pole and cultures of the visual (SCV) installed at the first Imaginarium floor.

At the heart of the Plaine Images, the implantation of the Tore contributes to a broader dynamic of attractiveness and economic development in the territories of the Union, Roubaix, Tourcoing and Wattrelos. It is one of this high -tech equipment set available to companies in the sector. It is today an essential asset to attract large companies in the industrial sector to the site, the automotive, rail and aeronautical industries appearing among potential users.

The Tore participates in the visibility of excellence of the University of Lille and the I-Site University Lille Northern Europe (Ulne) Foundation in the field of visual sciences and cultures, allowing an original interaction between human and social sciences and Digital innovation. It is also fully integrated into the Euroregional synergy generated on the different places where virtual reality is present.

This technological innovation carried out within the framework of the Idient Team project, benefited from the financing of the European Regional Economic Development Fund (ERDF), from State aid for the "Investments of the Future" program (PIA) and the participation of the European Metropolis of Lille (MEL). This project is supported by the University of Lille, the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automatic (INRIA).
